Mariposa Lily

I always get excited to discover a new plant or flower. I know, I'm a total nerd that way.

On Friday, I found a small patch of sagebrush mariposa lilies (Calochortus macrocarpus). According to one source, they're actually somewhat rare these days, but I saw at least a half dozen of them growing together. I've read that they're nearly impossible to transplant or grow from seed. In that way, I suppose finding these flowers is a small miracle.
