Bye Bye Birdie

The kids have immersed themselves in the final CYT show of the year: Bye Bye Birdie. For me, the production has been a delightful walk down 'Memory Lane,' as I took part in the same show back in high school. It's strange to think that after twenty five years, I can still sing my parts as if I learned them yesterday.

There are still several shows this weekend. You can purchase tickets online by clicking here.

Old and New

This last week, I received a call from Nate, an old friend that I haven't seen since we met at Chichen Itza on the Yucatan Peninsula. That was almost five years ago. We toured the ruins, swam in a cenote (an underground river), had lunch in the colonial city of Valladolid. Since then, we've each had our own adventures in various parts of the world, but he recently finished a degree in fine arts and got tickets to Spokane as a graduation present.

Despite wondering who comes to Spokane as a graduation celebration, I was very happy to see him again. And most important, he said that he wanted to introduce me to his sweetheart Ellie. We had lunch together, renewed old connections, and made a new friend.

We also walked down to Spokane Falls. The spring run-off is still at its full strength, so the falls are quite spectacular.

We also paid a short visit to Boo Radley's. The windows are draped with massive tarot cards printed on cloth. This one is labeled in Spanish: "La Fuerza" (Strength).

Friendship

Last Sunday, Dakota also performed "Friendship" with Austin Ferris at Marsha Schlangen's Spring Voice Recital.

Button Up Your Overcoat

The girls also performed at Marsha's voice recital this past Mother's Day, singing "Button Up Your Overcoat."

Priest Lake

My family took a much needed mini-vacation to Priest Lake, Idaho, where we put aside our hectic schedules and enjoyed some quiet time together. We stayed in a cabin, played games, and hiked in the nearby mountains. Times like this remind me of the blessings of family.
