Doubt and Faith

Lesley Hazleton is an agnostic Jew who wrote The First Muslim: The Story of Muhammad. In this TED video, she spoke about Islam and the Prophet in a way that defies the simplistic east-versus-west narrative that so frequently dominates the media-driven public discourse. From my perspective, I was especially moved by the way she challenged the idea that faith is the banishment of doubt. Rather, doubt is essential to faith. She also challenged fundamentalism in all its varieties and ultimately strengthened my faith in the the future of humanity.

Hazleton articulated a concept that has been brewing in my mind for several years. For anyone who has ever wrestled with these questions, this video deserves to be watched in its entirety.
